What is Taxotere?
Taxotere, also known as Docetaxel, is often the first drug to be used in the chemotherapy along with the steroids prednisone. Taxotere is used to treat many forms of cancer, such as breast, lunch, head and neck, prostate, and stomach cancers. It not only prevents the growth and spread of cancer, but also inhibits its symptoms. It has been a popular choice of treatment as it requires fewer doses than other treatments, but doctors and patients in the US were not informed of it’s major side effect – permanent hair loss.
How is it used for treatment?
Taxotere is a liquid that is injected directly into the veins. The treatment takes about an hour and is needed every 1-3 weeks, depending on the type of cancer that’s being treated.
